Active School, PE & Sport

At LRS, we strive to create an environment where all children can fully access PE, enjoy and learn to love movement for the rest of their lives. Our inclusive approach enables all of our children to engage with PE, sports and movement in a wide variety of ways. Our bespoke curriculum caters for children of all abilities and focuses on an appreciation of fundamental movement. Our PE values (Listen, Respect, Support) seek to build upon our school's wider goal of ensuring our children are developing into becoming the best versions of themselves.

In a typical day at LRS, a child can expect play times full of movement, with access to a wide variety of sports and play equipment at break times, and the opportunity to move to support their learning. Every day, children will do ‘Fit in 10’, where they get outside for some fresh air and move to support their learning. Children will also participate regularly with our LETSGOLRS: a set of specifically selected movements to stimulate our children’s cognitive development, lesson engagement and physical and mental wellbeing.

During a child's journey at LRS, they will experience conventional sports and activities such as football, netball, gymnastics and cricket but also be given the opportunity to try sports like Ultimate Frisbee, lacrosse and Double Dutch; activities such as dance and Para-Volleyball and expand their sporting horizons. Utilising a range of facilities, including basketball and netball hoops, a large field and hall with gymnastics equipment, this variety enables all children to find something in the world of PE and sport that they love and can excel at in their own way.

Our children’s sporting lives are celebrated in our weekly assembly with the awarding of ‘LRS Sporting Achievement Awards’, which are given for sporting success, participation or endeavour. Children and parents share these examples with staff, who then celebrate these with the children in the assembly and then on the LRS PE board, proudly situated in the hall for all to see.

Outside of lessons, we offer extra-curricular clubs in many sports such as football (boys and girls), rugby, netball, cricket and athletics. We provide opportunities for intra- and inter-school competitions, competing in local leagues and tournaments for football and netball. We utilise external expertise and have help and support from the South Bucks School Sports Partnership, Inspire2BActive and local sports clubs such as High Wycombe RFC, Burnham Football Club and more. We also run house competitions throughout the year, many involving sports that promote inclusion and disability awareness within sport (including Boccia and Para-volleyball).
